First of all a Happy New Year to you all and we could not have hoped for a better beginning to the new year. A few days before Christmas we heard that our application for Lottery funding had been successful. Our future for the next three years is secure with a grant totaling just over £142,000. It means that Linda and Phil need not worry about whether their wages will be paid. It also means that we have three years to develop and build for the long term rather than worrying about our financial situation week in week out.
Of course we will never be able to sit back and think we will be forever secure.We will continue to raise money to consolidate our financial position by the end of the third year and explore new avenues. We want ensure that many more people can use our facilities and gain pleasure from the “books” we produce every week. That is why I am looking forward to a series of meetings with Stroke Wales, Dyslexia Cymru and RNIB Cymru so that we can treble the number of those who receive our offerings in the next three years. It
won’t be easy but we must try to reach more people as we know there are so many In Wales who could avail themselves of our services. If you know of anyone who falls into that category, please get in touch.
Now, it’s time to give three cheers to the Big Lottery managers who thought fit to support us and put their faith in our scheme. They have recognised the need and provided us with a worthwhile challenge to develop and expand, and I hope, realised that we are totally committed to what we are doing at Talking Books Wales.
